Hard to believe, but our cruise vacation was about to end. Just as unbelievable, though, was what a good time we'd had in only seven days. We had the breakfast buffet with a last-ditch splurge of fresh fruit. All passengers had to be out of their cabins by 8 a.m., so we took our small bags to Rendezvous Square to wait our turn to get off. Celebrity establishes your disembarkation priority by your method of transport home, with those having airline connections getting first chance. Our bus wasnt scheduled to arrive until around 11, so we were among the last to leave Century at around 10:00. Reality set in when we went to find our bags at the terminal we had to carry them ourselves! The transition back to normal life was harsh. Waiting for the bus without music or snacks seemed uncivilized. When the bus stopped at McDonalds, another dream was over: we had to pay for food! Our Celebrity cards had been like cash to us for a week, but their value had dropped to zero as we had gone down the gangway for the last time. We joked about needing Mustafa and Piotr to serve us and to ask us how our day had been. |
We got back to our car at around 4:30 p.m., gratefully a half-hour early. Wed heard about post-cruise blues, and found out the hard way that they are real. Like Cinderella at midnight, its hard to go from being among beautiful surroundings with a helpful, polite crew taking care of your every whim, and then returning to an empty, musty house just a few hours later. It was pretty depressing, although we joked about it. Lifes realities came back to intrude on our glow of relaxation: telephone messages, a backlog of mail to read, trips to the grocery store and dishes to wash. One postscript: once home on Saturday, we couldnt wait for the Sunday newspaper. Why? To plan our next cruise!<< Previous page >> Next page |
